PowerFAIDS is a software product developed by The College Board that provides critical functionality regarding financial aid management.  The Financial Aid Department utilizes the PowerFAIDS product to assign and manage awards for students each term.  

Data collected in PowerFAIDS is fed to Datatel Colleague in order to reflect awards and pending aid on student billing.

Only Financial Aid staff have access to the PowerFAIDS product.

In addition, these products are licensed for all student-owned computers.

Faculty and staff may install Microsoft Office on their personally-owned computers if its use is primarily for work-related purposes. Employees may purchase installation media at the University Store provided they sign a Work-at-Home Agreement at the Store.

Please contact your ITS Client Services Support Specialist for licensing information on other software products. ITS can often provide licensed installations at no charge to the department or provide significant volume discounts for certain products.

If you are getting a pop up window that Symantec is out of date either:

1. Click on the upright Yellow Shield in your task bar.

2. When the Symantec Window pops up click Live Update on the Left.

If you can't find the yellow shield

1. Click on Start > All Programs > Symantec Endpoint Protection

2. Click on Live Update on the Left.

Syamtec will now run Live Update, you can safely ignore both windows until it has finished.

Unfortunately, no. It cannot be pre-installed in the lab environment.

That said, you may certainly use Box Edit. Box Edit will prompt you to install it any time you log into a computer, log in to your Box account, and then attempt to edit a file.

To install anti-virus software on your computer you must first uninstall any other antivirus software you might have before installing ours. Then click on the link Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows 7/Vista/XP and install using Internet Explorer.

Our license agreement with Microsoft provides students with rights to Windows operating system upgrades, Microsoft Office for Windows and MacOS.

• Students are entitled to upgrade to the latest versions until their graduation then you will have a perpetual license(s) for your installed version.
• Students that withdraw from the University without graduating must uninstall the Microsoft products acquired through this license agreement.

To install Office on your computer go to http://wlu.onthehub.com and click the "Sign In" link. If you are prompted, provide your W&L username and password. Click on the product you want and Add to Cart.

1.  On the machine you are installing, create an ImageViewer folder (usually C:\Program Files\ImageViewer), and copy all the files in UCTOOLS\OTHER\MDID\ImageViewer2_PC  into the local ImageViewer folder.  Create a shortcut in Start, All Programs for the new application.
2.  Run the application. After it loads and prompts for a username/password, select "Preferences" in the upper right corner of the application and change two settings: MDID URL should be http://mdid2.wlu.edu ( http://mdid2.wlu.edu/ ), and Local Image Cache Directory can be set to any local folder that the user can access (varies depending on installation).
3. Test ID=biged, password - biged

Statistical software packages are like Excel on steroids.While Excel is a very powerful tool, you wouldn’t use it to compute your income taxes if you had a complicated return.  You would use specialized tax software.  If you want to perform the types of statistical analysis that can be found in academic journals than software like Stata or SPSS would probably be helpful.  Analyses such as crosstabs, correlations, OLS regressions, logistic regressions, etc. can be done in Excel but are easier in Stata or SPSS.  Other types of analyses just can’t be done in Excel.  Stata and SPSS can also handle much larger data files than Excel.

Stata and SPSS also have excellent data management capabilities that facilitate combining data from different sources.In that sense, they can be thought of as low end database software with extremely strong statistical capabilities.

PhoneMail has two access numbers. The number you dial is determined by the last digit of your phone number.

2. Dial your extension number followed by #. Special Note for Residents Sharing a Room and Phone: Double room residents must add a 1 or a 2 after your extension number while accessing PhoneMail. Outlook 2010/2013

1. While logged in to Outlook select File Tab and click on Account Settings.
2. In the Account Settings window highlight your Microsoft Exchange account and select Change.
3. In the Change E-mail Account window select the More Settings button.
4. Navigate to the Advanced tab.
5. In the ‘Open these additional mailboxes’ display select the ‘Add’ button.
6. Enter the name of the shared mailbox and select OK.
7. Select OK again and close all previous windows.
8. You will now have a permanent link to the shared mailbox in your mail folder hierarchy.
9. NOTE: Sent Items behavior can be configured in one of two ways. To set the Sent Item configuration, login to the shared mailbox through  OWA, Select Options, Settings, and the  Sent Items tab:

Safari Books Online provides the full text of books and other print resources, and is available to all W&L faculty, students and staff. Many books on information technology are included in the collection, which includes reference sources from many of the leading technology publishers, including Adobe, Microsoft, O'Reilly, QUE and Sams. Featuring more than 12,000 titles, it covers Office 2010, Adobe graphics applications, Java, Web development, Windows, XML, Linux/Unix, and more.

ITS expects most computers to last between four and five years.  It is our goal to evaluate the functionality of computers when they turn four years old.

Audacity is a free, open source software for recording and editing sounds available at: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/   The download works on both Macintosh and PCs.

Stata and SPSS are statistical packages that can be found on computers in labs across the W&L campus.  Stata is available in the Williams School and in Leyburn Library.  SPSS is also in the library and on machines in the Science Center.

Before you can install the printer you will need to download and install the appropriate driver for your Operating System.   Click on the link for your operating system below to start the download.  (to find your Operating System click on the Apple and choose “About this Mac”)

Delete all MPS3 network printers:

Open System Preferences and select the Print & Scan Icon, and then delete all MPS3 printers.

Install the new printer:

  In the Print & Scan Preference Panel:

·         Click on the + to add a printer, and choose “Add other printer or Scanner”.

·         In Default, scroll down to select the name of the printer starting with MPS4.

·         Each BizHub has a print queue (see example below)

o   MPS4-ITS_Tucker_BizHub

·         The Name and Location will be automatically populated.

·         Click on pull down “Choose a Driver or Printer Model”

o   Select Printer Software

o   In the Filter box, type Konica

o   If the drivers have been installed, you will see a list

o   Select the appropriate PS driver for your BizHub model then click on Add.

1. While logged in to Outlook select Tools and then Accounts.
2. In the Accounts window highlight your Microsoft Exchange account and select Advanced.

6. In the Select Users search field; enter the name of the shared mailbox and then click then click Find.

This error occurs sometimes when using Firefox or Safari to access your Outlook Live account. Here's how to fix the problem:

In Firefox, go to tools, options, then click the privacy tab and click "remove individual cookies".  Then search for outlook and delete all OUTLOOK.COM cookies.  It should now work.  This method may vary in different browsers and versions of firefox.

In Safari, go Preferences/Security/Show Cookies and delete all OUTLOOK.COM cookies.

*Do NOTdelete ALL Cookies - just the outlook.com ones!*

Prospective students access using their personal e-mail address.  The one they used when they applied.  Prospective students create an account (GHQ Applicant Portal "Account Creation" page) and are then sent a 5 digit pin in an email, incuding a link back to the portal where they create a password.

3. Go to Computer (My Computer on Windows XP) and you should see the L: drive listed.

You can check updates to your Sakai sites on your smart phone! Just 

go to http://sakai.wlu.edu/portal/pda and log in. This interface 

makes it much easier to check on your classes when you're not at 

your computer.

1. Within your IMAP client add a new mail account
2. For the full name field enter the shared mailbox name (or the name you would like to display when an email is sent from this account)
3. For email address enter the SMTP email address for the shared mailbox.
4. For password enter your own password
5. For username enter ad/youraccountname/shared-mailbox-name (ex: ad/smithj/shredmail). Set account type to IMAP
6. Set incoming mail server to owa.wlu.edu
7. Set connection security to SSL/TLS using port 993
8. Set the Outgoing Server to use SMTPA, and use your email/password for authentication.  You will not acutally use this, but most IMAP connection require this step.

Version 40 of Firefox intentionally disables authenticated content embedded in unauthenticated web pages if the page and content are in different domains. 

This can be manually fixed by:

• typing “about:config” in the address bar
• clicking “I’ll be careful, I promise!”
• searching for the Preference Name:  network.auth.allow-subresource-auth
• Click the “1” next to that in the Value column and change to “2”
• click OK. 

Once you refresh the page it will prompt for login. 

If you need access to Colleague, please go to https://managementtools.wlu.edu/AccessRequest/ and request an account. Once the proper approvals are granted, an account will be set up for you. Accounts are set up on an individual basis and they should not be shared with anyone. In most cases, when dealing with course and student information, the Registrar’s office will provide some level of training or guidance on how to access the data you require.

If you already have access to Colleague but cannot remember your login information or have issues accessing the system, go to http://webhelpdesk.wlu.edu and create a ticket under the category of Administrative Data – Colleague Issues/Requests. Once submitted, the ticket will be automatically routed to the appropriate person who can help you resolve problems.
