Here's the deal with blinking lights on your Blackberry:
a) Service light.
Turn it off in Settings > Screen/Keyboard
'LED Coverage Indicator' on/off
b) New Message light
It's the red light. You can disable the lights for
each profile. Go to Profiles and edit the one you use.

How do I reboot my Blackberry? (link) |
If the Blackberry software hangs, you can:
1. reboot the device by taking out the battery or
2. Press ALT-CAP-Backspace to reboot your BlackBerry. As soon as the screen comes back up, press ALT-CAP-Backspace again.
Note:
- The first time you press ALT-CAP-Backspace, your Blackberry will release your cell connection and re-acquire. In order to truly reboot your Blackberry, press ALT-CAP-Backspace, and as soon as the screen comes back up, press ALT-CAP-Backspace again.
- On the 8310, this only works if you press the right hand caps key.

On your Blackberry, if you just want to see the members of a particular folder and not all of your Contacts:
1. In the Address Book > Click on the Blackberry button > Choose "Filter" from the list
2. You should see the Contacts Folder names you've created.
3. If you select to filter on that folder, you will see only the names in that folder.
4. To undo a filter and see all of your Contacts, repeat the process but uncheck the box in front of the folder name. |

First turn on Wi-Fi (wireless) on the device:
1. At the Home screen, press the Menu key.
2. Scroll to the Manage Connections icon and press the trackball.
3. Scroll to Wi-Fi (not all Blackberry phones have this option; if you don't see it, it's not available for your model). Press the trackball to place a check mark in the box to turn on Wi-Fi.
Then scan and connect to available networks
To scan for and connect to available networks, perform the following steps:
1. At the Home screen, press the Menu key.
2. Scroll to Set Up Wi-Fi Network and press the trackball.
3. Scroll to Next and press the trackball.
4. Select Scan for Networks. The handheld scans and displays available networks.

- In Options click Mail.
- Under Send messages, select or clear the Use Auto-Complete List to suggest names when typing in the To, Cc and Bcc lines check box.
Note: When you type the first letter of a name in the To, CC, and BCC boxes, AutoComplete begins to suggest possible matches based on the names of whom you have sent an item to before. |

Filter Keys is an annoying Windows feature that can be turned off permanently in one simple step. Filter Keys ignores keyboard input unless the key is held down for a significant period of time, and is triggered when you hold down a key, such as shift, for 8 seconds. Tech/engineering blog //engtech explains how to disable Filter Keys permanently:
Control Panel >> Accessibility Options >> Remove all check-marks >> Apply

you need to save as a Word document before you turn in your work.
Here's how:
1. In Pages, go to File > Save as
2. Click the down arrow by the Save As box.
3. Check the box, "Save Copy as: Word Document"

If you have a Mobile device connected to W&L email (Outlook) and it has been lost or stolen you will need to do the following ASAP:
- Login to Outlook Web Access (owa.wlu.edu for faculty/staff or mail.wlu.edu for students)
- Put in your user name and password
- Go to Options (this is located in the upper right)
- On the left of page click on Mobile Devices
- Select the device that you have lost
- You may choose to wipe the device to remove all of the emails from it remotely
- Delete the device from the list
- Click Save
