The iPad is a tablet computer, created by Apple, with a 9.7 inch backlit screen. It is a multitouch device that weighs only 1.5 pounds. It runs a modified version of the iPhone OS, and it can connect to Wi-Fi networks, use the iBook reader, play music and run a multitude of applications available at the iTunes store.

If the Blackberry software hangs, you can:

1.  reboot the device by taking out the battery or

2. Press ALT-CAP-Backspace to reboot your BlackBerry. As soon as the screen comes back up, press ALT-CAP-Backspace again.

Note:

• The first time you press ALT-CAP-Backspace, your Blackberry will release your cell connection and re-acquire. In order to truly reboot your Blackberry, press ALT-CAP-Backspace, and as soon as the screen comes back up, press ALT-CAP-Backspace again.
• On the 8310, this only works if you press the right hand caps key.

The iPad comes with a charger that allows you to connect via a USB port to your PC or Macintosh, or you can plug the USB into the wall charger and charge it.

To force restart an iPad or iPhone hold down the Sleep button and Home button simultaneously for several seconds. This causes the device to force boot.

Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings

You will be asked to confirm two times.

All of your applications, network settings, e-mail information and iTunes account information will be wiped off of the iPad.

To enable voice calling while the device is locked

1. Select Options from the main applications menu
2. Select Security Options
3. Select General Settings
4. Set Allow Outgoing Calls While Locked to Yes

Removing the “Sent from My iPhone” Signature

This is actually the same on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, though we’ll focus on the iPhone for obvious reasons:

• Tap on the “Settings” app
• Tap on “Mail, Contacts, Calendars”
• Scroll down a ways and then tap on “Signature”
• Tap “Clear”, or just select all the text and delete it manually

Now exit from Settings. Any time a new mail message has been composed, sent, or replied to, the iPhone will no longer attach the “Sent from my iPhone” message with any emails.

Here's the deal with blinking lights on your Blackberry:

a) Service light.

Turn it off in Settings > Screen/Keyboard

'LED Coverage Indicator' on/off

b) New Message light

It's the red light. You can disable the lights for

each profile. Go to Profiles and edit the one you use.

1.In the email setup application, on the Email Accounts screen, press the Menu key.

2. Click Add Email Account.

3. Click your email account type. (Other if you do not see exchange)
4. Type your email address and password. Click Next.
5. For most types of email addresses, click POP/IMAP (Most common).

Provide the advanced setup information for your email address.

Click Next.

On your Blackberry, if you just want to see the members of a particular folder and not all of your Contacts:

1. In the Address Book > Click on the Blackberry button > Choose "Filter" from the list

2. You should see the Contacts Folder names you've created.

3. If you select to filter on that folder, you will see only the names in that folder.

4. To undo a filter and see all of your Contacts, repeat the process but uncheck the box in front of the folder name.

On the Blackberry, when in Messages:

1.       Click on the Options button (to the left of the ball).

2.       Choose Options from the menu.

3.       Choose Email Reconciliation

4.       Settings should read: 

a.       Delete On:  Prompt (or Mailbox)

b.      Wireless  Reconcile: On

c.       On Conflicts: Mailbox Wins

How to Save a File from Email to the Dropbox with iAnnotate

1. On your PC or Macintosh desktop computer, download the Dropbox program from www.dropbox.com

a. As part of the installation process, Dropbox will create a file in your "My Documents" folder. Anything that you save to that folder will viewable from your iPad.

2. Create a Dropbox account for yourself; remember the password because you'll have to enter it every time you access the account from your iPad. It can be the same or different from your University password.

a. You should now have a Dropbox account with 2 GB of free storage.

b. Drag a file into that folder for testing purposes.

3. Download the Dropbox application on your iPad.

a. Log into the dropbox once it's installed.

b. You should see the file you dragged to the Dropbox.

4. You can upload any photos or video files from your iPad to your Dropbox, but not any documents or PDFs. This is where iAnnotate comes in...it communicates between your email and your dropbox, being the 3^rd party.

5. Download the iAnnotate application on your iPad.

6. You should now be able to send a PDF from email to iAnnotate, and from iAnnotate to the Dropbox, all from the iPad.

1. Go to the Settings app
2. Select Wi-Fi
3. Make sure Wi-Fi is on and choose the "WLUsec" network
4. Enter your W&L network username (without the @mail.wlu.edu or @wlu.edu part) and password and tap Join
5. When prompted to accept the network certificate, tap the Accept button
6. Enter your device's passcode if prompted
7. A checkbox next to the WLUsec network and the Wi-Fi signal icon in the status bar at the top should indicate that you are now connected to the network

3. Scroll to Wi-Fi (not all Blackberry phones have this option; if you don't see it, it's not available for your model). Press the trackball to place a check mark in the box to turn on Wi-Fi.

To scan for and connect to available networks, perform the following steps:

1. At the Home screen, press the Menu key.

2. Scroll to Set Up Wi-Fi Network and press the trackball.

3. Scroll to Next and press the trackball.

4. Select Scan for Networks. The handheld scans and displays available networks.

5. Press the trackball to connect.  Enter your W&L network user name and password

1. You can use the Course Distribution Lists that are available in the Global Address List (GAL) in Outlook or Entourage. The courses are listed alphabetically by discipline. The format is Chem 106_01 Spring 2009-10.
2. In Sakai, you can use the Announcements tool to send e-mails. Choose High Priority to send e-mail to all participants of the site.
3. In Sakai, use the EMail Archive tool. You will have to add the EMail Archive tool in the Site Info > Edit Tools screen.
4. In Sakai, use the Mailtool too. You will have to add the Mailtool tool in the Site Info > Edit Tools screen. Note: The Mailtool has been deprecated by the Sakai Foundation. The tool is no longer supported and may not be included in future releases.

If you use Outlook 2007 or 2010 to read your email, you can use the Outlook Junk E-mail Reporting Tool You can use this tool to report junk e-mail to Microsoft and its affiliates for analysis in order to help improve the effectiveness of their e-mail filtering technologies. http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=18275  

NOTE: In order to find all the information needed by Microsoft services below, you will need to provide Internet headers from the spam messages. You can find the full Internet headers of a message by:

·         Windows: Double clicking the message in your inbox -> File -> Properties -> Copy the text in the “Internet Headers” text field and paste into your message to Microsoft.

·         Mac: Command + Clicking (right clicking) the message in your inbox and click "View Source." Copy all of the text in the Text Edit window and paste into your message to Microsoft.

·         Web Access: Double click to open the message, then select Message Details from the message tool bar.

• H: or Home directory  - This is your private space on the server. No one else has access to this space. This directory is backed up regularly by University Computing and is an appropriate place to store all of your work-related files.  Quota: 500 megabytes.

Add the discussion forum tool to the site.

Allow new threads and allow attachments.

Have the students create a thread, post their assignments as attachments and then have three other students post replies to those threads. If a student goes in and sees that a particular paper already has three replies, then she or he needs to look at another paper. I don’t think there’s a way you can enforce this automatically, you just have to tell the students to pay attention.

If you look at the times submitted for the replies, you’ll be able to see who did the first three replies.

If you have a Mobile device connected to W&L email (Outlook)  and it has been lost or stolen  you will need to do the following ASAP:

1. Login to Outlook Web Access (owa.wlu.edu for faculty/staff or mail.wlu.edu for students)
2. Put in your user name and password
3. Go to Options (this is located in the upper right)
4. On the left of page click on Mobile Devices
5. Select the device that you have lost
6. You may choose to wipe the device to remove all of the emails from it remotely
7. Delete the device from the list
8. Click Save

Whenever possible, use the tool at http://wireless.wlu.edu  to configure your device for use on W&L's wireless network.

You may need to manually configure some devices. The settings are:

• SSIDD: WLUsec
• Wireless Encryption: WPA2 Enterprise
• Authentication Protocol: MS-CHAPv2/PEAP
• Outside tunnel authentication: This should be left blank
• Inside tunnel authentication: WLU Username and Password
• Security certificate verification: Equifax Secure Certificate Authority

Technology work request tickets can be created simply by emailing your request to helpdesk@wlu.edu from a W&L email address. Your request will automatically be turned into a request ticket, and you will be sent a ticket confirmation.

You can reply to that email to update the job with further details, or simply send a new email to helpdesk@wlu.edu with the subject line Ticket your ticket number . (E.g. Ticket 12345) and your update in the body of the email.

1. One of the site owners needs to log into the SharePoint site (Members and Visitors cannot do this.)
2. Site Actions > Site Permissions
3. Select the name of the group to which you want to add the person.
4. Click New in the light gray bar above the list of current group members.
5. Type in or browse the address book for the username.
6. By default, the box is checked for the added person to receive an email with a link to the site. You can also add a personal message if you'd like.
7. Click OK.

These instructions provide a general map for configuring your account. If your Android menues offer you different choices than those decribed below try to pick the closest match.

Prospective students access using their personal e-mail address.  The one they used when they applied.  Prospective students create an account (GHQ Applicant Portal "Account Creation" page) and are then sent a 5 digit pin in an email, incuding a link back to the portal where they create a password.

Outlook does not download any pictures by default for HTML emails. Now this is nothing new, but what is different is that Outlook 2010 has added another layer of security around the pictures. In 2010 to enable images for HTML:

1. Click on the new "File" tab
2. Click on "Options"
3. Click on "Trust Center"
4. Clicn on "Trust Center Settings"
5. Uncheck the "Don't download pictures automatically in HTML e-mail messages or RSS items" check box
6. Click the OK button
7. Exit Outlook 2010
8. Close all your applications and save your work.
9. Restart the computer.

If you are a graduate you don't have access to WebAdvisor anymore. Go to the Registrar's Office page (link above) and Click the Transcript Request Form under the Alumni Header. Print and mail or fax in the request. As alum you will receive an official transcript.  To make it unofficial you need to make a photocopy of the hard copy. 

1. Within your IMAP client add a new mail account
2. For the full name field enter the shared mailbox name (or the name you would like to display when an email is sent from this account)
3. For email address enter the SMTP email address for the shared mailbox.
4. For password enter your own password
5. For username enter ad/youraccountname/shared-mailbox-name (ex: ad/smithj/shredmail). Set account type to IMAP
6. Set incoming mail server to owa.wlu.edu
7. Set connection security to SSL/TLS using port 993
8. Set the Outgoing Server to use SMTPA, and use your email/password for authentication.  You will not acutally use this, but most IMAP connection require this step.
