Here are some of the most common symptoms and solutions to authentication failure to W&L web applications:

1. You are repeatedly presented with a login prompt, which never is successful.  You are using a personal computer, or are off campus.    Try entering your user name with the prefix "AD\" .  E.g.   AD\MyAccountName  .  W&L's Active Directory domain is named "AD".  This prefix tells the web server which domain to authenticate against.
2. The previous step does not work, but in the popup, you see an option similar to "Use Another Account".  Select that option, and use the AD\ prefix.  In this case, your browser is using your computer's name as the authentication domain, and is ignoring the AD\ prefix.
3. Has your W&L password expired?  Has it been more that one year since you changed it?  You may do so at http://password.wlu.edu.
4. You are using FireFox version 30.0 on a Mac or Linux workstation.  Release 30 breaks Windows authentication.  See the following for a fix: http://managementtools.wlu.edu/Help/Resources/1/271.pdf
5. You are using FireFox version 40, and accessing an unauthenticated page with authenticated content embedded in it.  This version of FireFox intentionally disables this if the page and content are in different domains.  You can configure Firefox to allow this, or use a different browser.
6. You are using Safari, and receiving the error "request body stream exhausted".  This is a bug with Safari authentication.  Use a different browser.
7. You are on an iOS device, recently updated to version 7.  This update breaks windows authentication for some iOS devices like iPhones or iPads.  Use another device.
8. You are never presented with a login prompt.  You are using Internet Explorer on a W&L computer, from off campus.  Integrated Windows login is failing because the browser can not communicate with a W&L AD Domain Controller from off campus.  Use another browser or temporarily disable Integrated Windows authentication: https://managementtools.wlu.edu/Help/Default.aspx?col=1&q=unable+log+login

If none of these solutions work, try going to http://MyVI.wlu.edu and opening a web browser from the APPS screen.  Then, you will effectively be using a W&L computer, and on campus.  This will bypass many issues associated with using personally owned computers.

If one takes a W&L laptop that is in the W&L AD domain off campus and then attaches to a site that is in the IE 'Local Intranet' security zone, the laptop attempts to do pass-through integrated windows login.  However, this requires that the computer has direct access to an AD domain controller, which is blocked in the firewall.  Unfortunately, IE does not gracefully fall back to a username and password prompt in this case.

To configure IE to always prompt for a username and password:

1.       Open Internet Explorer

2.       Select “Tools”

3.       Select “Internet Options”

4.       Select “Security”

5.       Select “Local  intranet”

6.       Select “Custom level…”

7.       Scroll all the way to the last option and select “Prompt for user name and password”

8.       Select “OK” to exit both dialog windows

To re-configure IE once you are back on campus, follow the same procedure, but in step 7, select “Automatic logon only in Intranet zone”

On the Login screen:
1) Use the drop down box to change from the "AD" setting to the "this computer" setting.
2) Login name is W&LGuest
3) Password is W&Lpassword
(entries are case sensitive)

• Navigate your browser to https://sharepoint.wlu.edu. The "https" is required and provides secure access to the site.
• Log in with your network username. You may need to use the "AD\" prefix, for example, AD\doej
• Use your network password.

On the Login screen: 
1) Use the drop down box to change from the "AD" setting to the "this computer" setting.
2) Login name is W&LGuest
3) Password is W&Lpassword (entries are case sensitive)

*note: classroom guest login screen will look very similar to this laptop pool login screen below

On the entry page Click the box next to “Use Windows Authentication” and then Click the “Login” button. You do not need to enter your User ID or password on this page.

The L-Drive is a network file storage space for course work. It is intended for instructional use by instructors and students. The fileserver space can be used for student websites, collaborative assignments and many other kinds of work.  The L drive can be accessed in any application, such as Word, Excel or PowerPoint, or with a file management tool such as Windows Explorer. The WLU wireless network allows users to access the network for a short period with authenticated access, or a long period with secure access. If you are just visiting campus for a day you should attach to the "wlu" wireless networks. If you are going to be using our wireless network frequently you will want to register for the secure wireless network. Registering on the secure network allows you to remain attached to the network without having to reauthenticate, and it encyrpts your network traffic so it is secure. To register on the Secure network go to Http://wireless.wlu.edu .

If you are not formally associated with WLU you can access the network as a guest by attaching to the "wlu" network. This network has some restrictions.

The ISP and the ISP Committee were organized at the direction of the Provost in 2003 to comply with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) and to implement the “Safeguards Rule” issued by the Federal Trade Commission. The ISP Committee is chaired by the ISP Coordinator and the Committee has responsibility, in advising the Provost, for the ISP. The original program scope was intentionally broader than necessary for simple legal compliance, and requires all departments to have written procedures documenting the safeguards used to protect the University’s information assets.

1. At the Home screen, press the Menu key.

2. Scroll to the Manage Connections icon and press the trackball.

3. Scroll to Wi-Fi (not all Blackberry phones have this option; if you don't see it, it's not available for your model). Press the trackball to place a check mark in the box to turn on Wi-Fi.

To scan for and connect to available networks, perform the following steps:

1. At the Home screen, press the Menu key.

2. Scroll to Set Up Wi-Fi Network and press the trackball.

To force restart an iPad or iPhone hold down the Sleep button and Home button simultaneously for several seconds. This causes the device to force boot.

Various restrictions apply to the guest wireless network, including limited speed, and restricted access to some web sites, including Facebook. W&L faculty, staff and students can get the best quality connection by registering for W&L's secure wireless network. To do that, point your browser on your wireless device to http://wireless.wlu.edu and follow the directions.

Faculty and staff computers will be joined to the domain by ITS personnel. Personally-owned student computers cannot be joined to the domain.

If you need to access a computer that is in the domain, you can go to http://THESTABLE.wlu.edu and access a virtual image that is in the domain. (Access requires authorization; you'll have to log in with your network username and password.)

Instruction:
1. Go to BIOS setting, On Board Devices, and turn off "Flash Cache Module".
2. Go to On Board Devices and change SATA Operation from "AHCI" to "ATA"
3. Save and exit BIOS
4. Use your BartPE to access the "Vista HDD" now, you will be able to see a C: Drive, back up all files.
5. If clean Install Vista from CD, change everything back in the BIOS.
 (Is it possible to do a ghost? Haven't tried yet since I couldn't find a working vista image)

2. Click on View the original item. (E-mail stubs only show a portion of the original message)
3. Log in with AD\username and your password.
4. At the top, hover over the buttons until you find the Download button.
5. Click on the Download button.
6. At the bottom of your browser, a message appears asking 'Do you want to open or save the message from the server?'
7. Choose Open.
8. When message opens, click on Forward.
9. Send to recipient.

The wireless network for W&L faculty, staff and students uses a technology called 802.1x, which provides security by encrypting all network traffic.

Some older computers do not support this technology. However, most modern, up-to-date wireless devices will run on the secure wireless network:

• Windows computers with security features enabled, including auto-updates, firewall and up-to-date operating system
• Macintosh computers with security features enabled, include firewall and up-to-date operating system
• Apple iPad and iPod Touch
• Most Smart Phones with wireless capability, including iPhone, Blackberry, and Android-type phones

Game devices such as the Xbox 360 and Wii and other special-purpose network devices such as the Roku do not function on the secure wireless network. For such devices, use a wired connection, or register them for use on the wireless network.

Whenever possible, use the tool at http://wireless.wlu.edu  to configure your device for use on W&L's wireless network.

You may need to manually configure some devices. The settings are:

• SSIDD: WLUsec
• Wireless Encryption: WPA2 Enterprise
• Authentication Protocol: MS-CHAPv2/PEAP
• Outside tunnel authentication: This should be left blank
• Inside tunnel authentication: WLU Username and Password
• Security certificate verification: Equifax Secure Certificate Authority

If you right click on the files that do not work and look at the Security tab under Properties, the read permissions for the WWW user are missing.  This is the account that the web servers use to read the data.  Missing rights is usually caused by moving files between folders of differing security settings.  Within a volume, the file server does not recalculate rights on a move.  These files may have been dragged from elsewhere in the H: drive, and therefore did not receive the read permissions required.  The easiest way to prevent this is to use copy/paste instead of drag or move, since rights are always re-calculated when a file is created. 

To fix the existing files: 

1.       right click on the public_html folder

2.       select properties

3.       select security

4.       select advanced

5.       check the box “Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects”

6.       select OK

7.       select OK

This will force all the rights in the public_html folder to be recalculated.

Version 40 of Firefox intentionally disables authenticated content embedded in unauthenticated web pages if the page and content are in different domains. 

This can be manually fixed by:

• typing “about:config” in the address bar
• clicking “I’ll be careful, I promise!”
• searching for the Preference Name:  network.auth.allow-subresource-auth
• Click the “1” next to that in the Value column and change to “2”
• click OK. 

Once you refresh the page it will prompt for login.

1. One of the site owners needs to log into the SharePoint site (Members and Visitors cannot do this.)
2. Site Actions > Site Permissions
3. Select the name of the group to which you want to add the person.
4. Click New in the light gray bar above the list of current group members.

6. By default, the box is checked for the added person to receive an email with a link to the site. You can also add a personal message if you'd like.

You could possibly be missing a CODEC file that did not come with Windows Media Player. Try using another media player like PowerDVD instead.

1. Go to the Settings app
2. Select Wi-Fi
3. Make sure Wi-Fi is on and choose the "WLUsec" network
4. Enter your W&L network username (without the @mail.wlu.edu or @wlu.edu part) and password and tap Join
5. When prompted to accept the network certificate, tap the Accept button
6. Enter your device's passcode if prompted
7. A checkbox next to the WLUsec network and the Wi-Fi signal icon in the status bar at the top should indicate that you are now connected to the network

Your are probably having this problem because your Mac is trying to use an old 802.1x setting. To delete these old settings follow these instructions.

1. Click on your Apple icon, and go to System Preferences.
2. In system Preferences click on the Network icon.
3. Choose the AirPort in the left hand window, and click on the Advanced button in the lower right hand side of the Network window.
4. In the Advanced window click on the 802.1X tab. At this point you will need to delete the existing user profiles. Click on any that exist in the left hand screen and click on the - (minus) sign beneith them.
5. Click OK, and connect to WLU and rerun the the Cloudpath installer.

You will have 30 days after your departure date to move your data out of your W&L Box.com account. At the point that your W&L network account becomes inactive, you will no longer be able to access your W&L Box.com account.

     • Click on Update Now in the tool bar
     • Click Save & Close

To check that all members will be sent to, create a new message and place the distribution list in the To field, then expand the distribution list and check that all names are listed.

Go to Box.com and create a personal account using a personal email address, such as a gmail or yahoo account. in your W&L Box.com account, add that account as a collaborator on the files you'd like to move. Log into the personal account and download the files that you need to that account.

This is usually caused by the following situation:

1.) The user is logged in as a@b.com.
2.) In the user's inbox there are two digests, one for a@b.com and one for c@b.com.
3.) The user is clicking on a message in the c@b.com digest in their inbox which tries to link them into the Portal directly to that message.
4.) However, since they are logged in as a@b.com, they have no rights to the message.

To remedy the situation they need to examine the subject line of the digest they are clicking on, and log into the Portal as the user specified in the subject of the digest.

Box will not run on Mac 10.6.8. Apple dropped support of Mac 10.6.8 in February 2014, and since it's not being updated with security updates, Box has dropped their support of the operating system.

We do not provide copies of the address list for two primary reasons. 1 - it becomes a nightmare to troubleshoot issues as more and more out-of-date address lists are in use, 2 - if a machine holding these addresses gets infected with a virus that uses or collects addresses then our whole address list would be compromised.

This error may have been caused by opening four or more WebAdvisor hyperlink windows. For example, if a user is reviewing their budget and clicks on the Actuals, which opens a new window, then clicks on a Voucher, which opens a new window;  and the user does not close any of the child windows, and attempts to select another Actual, they will get the error.

All child windows must be closed using the CLOSE WINDOW button. If the user uses the browser's red X to close the windows, they will still get the error and be forced to log out and back in to WebAdvisor.

If this does not solve the problem you may need to review and then delete the webadvisor stored cookies.

In Chrome - Chrome Settings/Advanced/Content Settings/All Cookies &Site Data/Search "WebAdvisor"/ and Click X to to right of webadvisor.wlu.edu cookie to delete it
