Why do authenticated forms embedded in unauthenticated web pages display a 401 Access Denied error using Firefox 40? (link) |

- searching for the Preference Name: network.auth.allow-subresource-auth
- Click the “1” next to that in the Value column and change to “2”

Why can't I log on to a W&L authenticated web application? (link) |
Here are some of the most common symptoms and solutions to authentication failure to W&L web applications:
- You are repeatedly presented with a login prompt, which never is successful. You are using a personal computer, or are off campus. Try entering your user name with the prefix "AD\" . E.g. AD\MyAccountName . W&L's Active Directory domain is named "AD". This prefix tells the web server which domain to authenticate against.
- The previous step does not work, but in the popup, you see an option similar to "Use Another Account". Select that option, and use the AD\ prefix. In this case, your browser is using your computer's name as the authentication domain, and is ignoring the AD\ prefix.
- Has your W&L password expired? Has it been more that one year since you changed it? You may do so at http://password.wlu.edu.
- You are using FireFox version 30.0 on a Mac or Linux workstation. Release 30 breaks Windows authentication. See the following for a fix: http://managementtools.wlu.edu/Help/Resources/1/271.pdf
- You are using FireFox version 40, and accessing an unauthenticated page with authenticated content embedded in it. This version of FireFox intentionally disables this if the page and content are in different domains. You can configure Firefox to allow this, or use a different browser.
- You are using Safari, and receiving the error "request body stream exhausted". This is a bug with Safari authentication. Use a different browser.
- You are on an iOS device, recently updated to version 7. This update breaks windows authentication for some iOS devices like iPhones or iPads. Use another device.
- You are never presented with a login prompt. You are using Internet Explorer on a W&L computer, from off campus. Integrated Windows login is failing because the browser can not communicate with a W&L AD Domain Controller from off campus. Use another browser or temporarily disable Integrated Windows authentication: https://managementtools.wlu.edu/Help/Default.aspx?col=1&q=unable+log+login
If none of these solutions work, try going to http://MyVI.wlu.edu and opening a web browser from the APPS screen. Then, you will effectively be using a W&L computer, and on campus. This will bypass many issues associated with using personally owned computers. |

How do I get my laptop computer to display on the projector? (link) |
Most laptop computers require you to turn on the external monitor output in order to send the computer image to the projector. Follow these steps for WINDOWS based laptops: -Be sure you have a proper cable connected from your laptop's external monitor port directly to the projector or to the classroom podium connectors. -Press and hold the Fn key on your keyboard (usually located in the lower left). -Press the specific key for your laptop (F1-F12) that controls your external monitor port. The key is usually indicated by an external monitor icon or the words "CRT/LCD". For example, on a Dell laptop the proper keystroke combination is Fn+F8. Other brands may use Fn+F5, Fn+F7 or another combination. Check your owner's manual if you are unsure. -Repeat the keystroke combination if the laptop does not project after the first attempt.
ForMAC laptops: -An adaptor cable is usually necessary to connect a MAC laptop to one of the classroom systems or directly to a projector. There are several different styles that are model dependent. This cable normally comes with your laptop. See your owner's manual for more details. -Hook the adaptor cable directly to the projector or to the classroom podium connectors. -It is best to turn on your MAC laptop after making the proper cable connections. The laptop will see the external monitor and set itself up to send an image to it. |

Why are some files unavailable in my personal web site? (link) |
If you right click on the files that do not work and look at the Security tab under Properties, the read permissions for the WWW user are missing. This is the account that the web servers use to read the data. Missing rights is usually caused by moving files between folders of differing security settings. Within a volume, the file server does not recalculate rights on a move. These files may have been dragged from elsewhere in the H: drive, and therefore did not receive the read permissions required. The easiest way to prevent this is to use copy/paste instead of drag or move, since rights are always re-calculated when a file is created.
To fix the existing files:
1. right click on the public_html folder
2. select properties
3. select security
4. select advanced
5. check the box “Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects”
6. select OK
7. select OK
This will force all the rights in the public_html folder to be recalculated. |

There is a problem running the latest version of FlipShare (the software that manages all your Flip videos) on older PCs. Basically, the software detects the processor on your computer and if your processor is not up to its standard, it will shut down, giving you an error message.
The solution is to download and install the older version of Flipshare. First uninstall Flipshare (Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs), then download and install "Flip Video For PC" v3.7 from here:

I'm getting the error "The maximum number of cookie values has been reached"
when I am logged into WebAdvisor.
The same issue will happen with Student workflows, Web Time Entry Workflows, etc. (link) |
This error may have been caused by opening four or more WebAdvisor hyperlink windows. For example, if a user is reviewing their budget and clicks on the Actuals, which opens a new window, then clicks on a Voucher, which opens a new window; and the user does not close any of the child windows, and attempts to select another Actual, they will get the error.
All child windows must be closed using the CLOSE WINDOW button. If the user uses the browser's red X to close the windows, they will still get the error and be forced to log out and back in to WebAdvisor.
If this does not solve the problem you may need to review and then delete the webadvisor stored cookies.
In Chrome - Chrome Settings/Advanced/Content Settings/All Cookies &Site Data/Search "WebAdvisor"/ and Click X to to right of webadvisor.wlu.edu cookie to delete it

When user logs in to check their quarantine queue, they are unable to select a message. The error they receive is that the message does not exist in their queue and they are logged in as the wrong user. The error message suggests they log out
and login again, but the problem remains. (link) |
From: DigiTar Support
This is usually caused by the following situation:
1.) The user is logged in as a@b.com. 2.) In the user's inbox there are two digests, one for a@b.com and one for c@b.com. 3.) The user is clicking on a message in the c@b.com digest in their inbox which tries to link them into the Portal directly to that message. 4.) However, since they are logged in as a@b.com, they have no rights to the message.
To remedy the situation they need to examine the subject line of the digest they are clicking on, and log into the Portal as the user specified in the subject of the digest. |

In Outlook 2007 and domain computers, there is a group policy object in place that prevents caching mode. If a computer is NOT in the domain OR is using Outlook 2010, then that policy does not apply, and by default, cached mode gets turned on.
To turn it off, go to File, Account Settings, Account Settings. Select her name, hit change. “Use cached exchange mode” should be unchecked.

Inking in PowerPoint 2007's Presenter View to Display Results on the Projector
(Problem: How to stop slides from advancing when inking during a presentation) (link) |
On PowerPoint 2007, Presenter View is an option under the Slide Show menu. Check the "Use Presenter View" box to enable it.
Presenter View expects your computer to be connected to a projector (or external monitor) where the projector is enabled as an extended desktop. This mode doesn't work if the external display mirrors the laptop display. When giving a presentation, the laptop/tablet's screen shows a small window of the slide content, navigation controls, and notes. The external or projected screen shows the full slide without the notes or navigation.
Enabled in PowerPoint 2007 is a button to ink on the current slide and have the results displayed on the external projector. However, when I tried this it kept advancing to the next slide after inking a stroke. I finally figured out how to work around this problem - select all the slides under "Animations", and disable "On Mouse Click" under "Advance Slide." Of course you can no longer click to advance, but that's not relevant when you have the navigation controls of Presenter View. One other hint: I have to click "apply to all slides" after unchecking "advance on mouse click" in order to get it to stop.
Unfortunately, Presenter View doesn't show mouse movements, so I would have to actually highlight the thing I'm referring to or draw a line to it or something.

How does an administrative assistant access and use Datatel to find course and student information in order to support their department and its faculty members? (link) |
If you need access to Colleague, please go to https://managementtools.wlu.edu/AccessRequest/ and request an account. Once the proper approvals are granted, an account will be set up for you. Accounts are set up on an individual basis and they should not be shared with anyone. In most cases, when dealing with course and student information, the Registrar’s office will provide some level of training or guidance on how to access the data you require.
If you already have access to Colleague but cannot remember your login information or have issues accessing the system, go to http://webhelpdesk.wlu.edu and create a ticket under the category of Administrative Data – Colleague Issues/Requests. Once submitted, the ticket will be automatically routed to the appropriate person who can help you resolve problems. |

When off campus, why can't I log into a W&L application web site (like SharePoint) using Internet Explorer? (link) |
If one takes a W&L laptop that is in the W&L AD domain off campus and then attaches to a site that is in the IE 'Local Intranet' security zone, the laptop attempts to do pass-through integrated windows login. However, this requires that the computer has direct access to an AD domain controller, which is blocked in the firewall. Unfortunately, IE does not gracefully fall back to a username and password prompt in this case.
To configure IE to always prompt for a username and password:
1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Select “Tools”
3. Select “Internet Options”
4. Select “Security”
5. Select “Local intranet”
6. Select “Custom level…”
7. Scroll all the way to the last option and select “Prompt for user name and password”
8. Select “OK” to exit both dialog windows
To re-configure IE once you are back on campus, follow the same procedure, but in step 7, select “Automatic logon only in Intranet zone” |
